I'm Sara. I love advocating for non-profits and helping them change more lives.

What's with the Zen vibe? And other FAQs

What is it that you do again?

You know how it is in the nonprofit world. Everybody is wearing 14 different hats, juggling 27 different priorities, and somehow still trying to answer emails with one hand while putting out a tiny metaphorical fire with the other.

So when it comes to grants, the challenge usually isn’t caring enough. It’s finding the time, clarity, and breathing room to pursue the right opportunities without adding one more thing to your already-full plate.

That's where I can be your source of support for:

  • Finding grants that are actually aligned with your mission

  • Understanding what funders want before you spend hours applying

  • Writing stronger proposals without losing the heart of what you do

Because your work already matters. My job is to help you find the words, structure, and strategy to fund more of it.

So you help with researching grants. Can you help with writing them too?

Think of the grant funding strategy as the research phase that gives you a clear, easy roadmap of which grants have the highest likelihood of success for your specific organization.

And hey, I know you already have a lot going on. So if you want me to take things from there, I can take care of the grant writing process too. Just say the word.

Okay, cool. What are your creds?

My story began in the world of publishing and conscious marketing, collaborating with heart-led companies like Sounds True and DailyOM. There, I had the chance to help share teachings from people like John O’Donohue, Caroline Myss, Gabor Maté, Richard Schwartz, and others whose work centers around trauma healing, mindfulness, and holistic well-being.

Then, a few years later, a serendipitous conversation led me to join a professional grant writing collective. There, I learned from seasoned vets in the industry how to use my background in research and storytelling to support nonprofits doing deeply meaningful work.

Today, I work as an independent, trauma-informed grant consultant. I specialize in supporting organizations focused on mental health, domestic violence, and human trafficking prevention and recovery. I’m also open to supporting nonprofits in other spaces when the mission and partnership feel aligned.

Oh and the whole Zen vibe?

Surrounded by the rolling bluffs and blue waters of Minnesota, I fell in love early with nature, writing, and mindfulness. For me, that looks less like sitting on a pillow with my eyes closed and more like lot's of long walks under tall trees, quiet nights with warm blankets, and the occasional candlelit cacao ceremony with friends.

My why

I didn't grow up thinking I was going to become a grant writer. In fact, I felt completely lost for a long time.

When I was a kid, I was in foster care until I was lucky enough to be adopted by a 5-foot-tall special education teacher who smelled of chocolate chip cookies and was notorious for her big bear hugs.

She’s the one who not only gave me a family, but taught me a lot about human kindness. Not as something superficial or a thing we do to be polite. But a way of being in the world. To sit next to the new kid in class who doesn’t have any friends. To carry the lost turtle across the road. And to always, lean into love.

I know what it means for one person, one act of care, or one safe place to alter the course of a life.

And that's what's opened my heart to this work.
